A Career in Game Production with Manitha Nayak.

What does it mean to have a career in game production? We put Associate Producer, Manitha Nayak, in the hot seat to chat us through her role at Technicolor Games, day-to-day responsibilities, and how the industry has evolved over the course of her professional journey.

Can you provide a brief overview of your role?

I am an Associate Producer at Technicolor Games. My primary role is to ensure a project runs smoothly, and is delivered on time to the highest quality and within budget. Therefore, I possess all the necessary details to carry out the daily and weekly checks.

What responsibilities do you have on a daily basis?

Day-to-day, my responsibilities vary from keeping the team up to date with any client requirements and priorities, ensuring that everyone feels great about what they are doing, and liaising with clients on deliveries, schedules, calls, etc.

What level did you start at Technicolor Games and how have you progressed to where you are now?

I joined Technicolor Games in April 2022 as a Production Manager and it has been an incredible journey so far. Every project I have worked on has taught me something new about the Gaming industry, and this is what continues to motivate me going forward.

How did your career begin?

As a child, I always had an enthused interest for games and movies, but never knew how I could be part of the industry. Growing up, I studied Animation and then entered the Animation & VFX industry, before an opportunity presented itself at Technicolor Games – and I just had to grab it! It gives me great joy being part of Technicolor Games and doing what I do.

What made you want to pursue a career in the Games industry?

The Gaming industry is ever evolving and super dynamic. The ability to create extraordinary virtual worlds using all the latest technology was a key component that drove me into this industry. The immersive experience that you get while playing video games is very enjoyable, and at the end of the day, to say I have contributed a small amount to such games, makes me feel immensely proud.

What has been the biggest change within the industry that you’ve noticed over the course of your career?

A big change I have seen within the industry, is awareness. It’s great to see that nowadays, a lot of individuals are keen on entering the Gaming industry, wanting to become artists, developers, designers, testers, etc. There are far more opportunities and resources for people to learn and develop their skills compared to a decade ago.

The growth of women in games is another factor I would like to highlight. Although the ratio is still lower than we’d like, there are many more women who are inclined towards gaming, and that is great to see!

What do you find most rewarding in your role?

The most rewarding part of my role is the game releases. I have been fortunate enough to work with some very talented people and it brings me a lot of joy to see what we’ve accomplished as a team. Seeing the adrenaline rush that a player has while playing a game we’ve contributed to is incredibly thrilling.

What is your most memorable moment working at Technicolor Games?

One of my most memorable moments at Technicolor Games was when we had clients visit the studio for the first time post Covid. It was finally possible for them to travel over and meet the team that played an integral part in the making of their games. It was a fantastic opportunity to share thoughts and insights, and they even played the game they worked on with us. Seeing them compete with our artists in the gaming room was a pleasure to experience. It isn’t everyday that you get to witness such collaboration in person.

What games do you enjoy playing or admire, and why?

To name a few, I enjoy playing Assassin’s Creed, Need for Speed, GTA, Mortal Kombat and UFC. I like playing these games during my free time, it’s fun to complete the different levels, revel in the world environments and enjoy all the cinematic experiences in between. The virtual world is always a good distraction from the real world.
