Meeting Your Creative Needs

Technicolor Games is the arm of our group that focuses on the creative needs for the gaming industry. We’ve collaborated with many of the top game developers in the world and our work can be seen in many of the most regarded games out there, including recent releases FIFA 17, Madden 17, and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

In Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, gamers will find fun connections to the popular Resident Evil series but with a new cast of characters that Technicolor worked with Capcom in Osaka to create. Powered by the specially built RE Engine, the huge number of Gameplay animations for the primary characters required extensive motion capture polishing. Technicolor adjusted elements in the characters’ posing to make them more natural and fine-tuned the animation timing, two features that are essential to creating more realistic animation. Animators also worked on creature animations, with spiders, cockroaches, and oversized mosquitos among the creepy cast of game characters. All told, the team produced more than 1,500 files, averaging 12 animators over 3,195 man-days for an immersive three hours of gameplay available for PlayStation VR, Xbox One, and PCs.

Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII

With settings ranging from World War II to futuristic environments, Call of Duty is one of the most popular franchises on the planet, with sales topping $15 billion. Technicolor has a long-term partnership with Activision dating back to 2012, working on five titles in all: Call of Duty: Ghosts; Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare; Call of Duty: Black Ops III; Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and Call of Duty: Black Ops III. The wide variety of work done on these games includes creating blend shapes, highly detailed UI elements, vegetation, environment props (organic and mechanical), statues, and zombie plants. The latest editions of the games used a PBR workflow and are on the IW engine (earlier iterations used Treyarch’s NGL engine). They are available on all consoles and PCs.

With our team of talented artists, we've partnered with multiple development studios, effectively expanding their own art teams.  Our Art Directors, who oversee all our games projects, will oversee these designs from concept to in-engine execution.

Motion capture cleanup and re-targeting

Our motion capture animation team has worked on everything from highly complex in-game animations, high end cinematic content, to Faceware retargeting and everything in between. We can supply experienced shoot Supervision/Direction, as well as all of our animation services. Working with Motionbuilder and Maya (and Max), our team offer experienced scalability to any mocap based production.

Keyframe animation

Keyframe animation has been at the core of our studio since its inception; we win Emmys for our animation!  We cast our talented animators based on their skills and passions, rather than defining them as ‘games animators’ or ‘tv animators’, so when a new project comes in, we ensure we crew it up with the most relevant, talented highly suited animators to suit its needs. Working on both AAA and mobile titles, our keyframers have breathed life into multiple award winning games.

Asset creation

Technicolor’s asset group is an industry leading powerhouse of skilled environment, hard surface, organic, and character artists. We remain resolutely pipeline agnostic, seamlessly dropping into our partners’ pipelines and toolsets.   At any time we could be working in Unreal, Unity and several proprietary engines, taking assets through the pipe from concept to level completion. Our skilled Substance trained surfacing artists create next generation PBR assets for top industry clients. Our team includes many highly talented sculptors, producing characters, creatures, as well as working on blend shapes and photo real heads.

Game Engine integrated pipelines

We offer support and integrated pipelines for multiple game engines. We currently work with four proprietary AAA engines as well as Unreal 4 and Unity. Our robust technical art team partner with our clients to ensure tools and processes are in sync, and our artists are able to work effectively. Our engine involvement ranges from full multiplayer level construction, destruction, down to asset import & testing.

VR & AR

Technicolor is deeply involved in creating immersive entertainment, which puts us on the frontline of the virtual reality evolution as it gathers momentum. With our in-engine expertise, skilled artists, and family of VFX brands including MPC, Mikros, the Mill and Mr. X, we collaborate with leading developers on exciting VR games and other immersive experiences.

OVERKILL's The Walking Dead

Get ready for the zombie apocalypse! OVERKILL's The Walking Dead is an action-packed co-op multiplayer shooter from developer OVERKILL – A Starbreeze Studio. Technicolor joined The Walking Dead Universe on this fight-to-survive game, which was developed with creator Robert Kirkman along with a new storyline and new characters. Technicolor Animation & Games created over 85 props for this AAA title – from finely detailed modeling and texturing to final integration of assets into Unreal.

FIFA 19

Champions rise again in FIFA 19! Gamers can experience the world's most prestigious club competition in FIFA 19 with the addition of the UEFA Champions League or on the international stage – as they guide three football stars through a journey of career-defining choices, challenges, and ultimate glory. As in previous iterations of the franchise, Technicolor Animation and Games was an instrumental creative partner on FIFA 19, delivering more assets than ever before.  The list includes stadiums resembling those in real-life; thousands of kits; hundreds of life-like character/player heads, accessories, and props; and wardrobe assets.

Asphalt 9

Asphalt 9: Legends is the latest installment in Gameloft’s popular fast-paced racing game series. Asphalt 9 offers gamers five classes of cars to chase and unlock, ranging from entry level sports cars to multi-million-dollar supercars. Technicolor Games delivered 17 cars for the release and continues to work on additional models. As part of Gameloft’s ongoing support of the game, new cars are made available regularly and, as such, the Technicolor team will be delivering six more cars. Car models and textures, along with five LODs (levels of detail), are created from hi-res scans provided by the client. All told, Technicolor Games is delivering models from A (Aston Martin) to Z (Zenvo, the Danish supercar).

Madden ‘19

Technicolor’s Animation and Games group partnered with Electronic Arts once gain for this year’s Madden game. The group was responsible for more assets than ever before, including the creation of 11 stadiums and various story-mode props. The key artists on the game were invited to the stadiums at Tiburon for on-site training, to ensure the animated versions accurately resembled the real-life stadiums. EA’s team also came out to the Bangalore Studio to train the team and help set up the pipeline. This was also the first instance that Technicolor’s artists worked in Frostbite to build the various stadiums.

He has worked on various international 2D and 3D animated TV shows, including BAFTA award-winning series Pablo the Little Red Fox and Walt Disney's Higglytown Heroes, and won BAF awards for commercials for All-Out Mosquito Repellent and Veneta Cucine Kitchen. Bala made the short animated film The Bad Egg, which won the Outstanding Film Award at DigiCon 6+2 in Tokyo in 2006 and World Gold Medal at New York Festivals in 2007. He has also directed the multiple award-winning TV series Little Krishna. In addition, he won India’s Cg Tantra Concept & Figurative Art Award for 2006-2007. He worked closely with the critically acclaimed director Shekhar Kapur and developed a web series called Warlord. He also underwent extensive art styling training at Zynga while working on Farmville 2. Bala is a BFA graduate in Visual Communication Design.
